The four-seat hypercar first showed its face back in 2020, six years on, and the family-friendly Koenigsegg is actually being built.
The Koenigsegg Gemera is entering production, six years after it was first shown to the world, the automaker announced in a Facebook post. According to Koenigsegg, the Gemera is being built alongside the CC850, with both models to be joined soon by the Sadair's Spear.
The four-door hypercar is limited to 300 units, with every example already accounted for. How long would you be willing to wait for a car that you put down a deposit for? Would that number change if the car were an ultra-limited hypercar? How about if you already owned two or three dozen of the finest automobiles the world has to offer? Six years after showing the Gemera to the world, Koenigsegg is finally putting the four-door hypercar into production, ending the long wait for its wealthy customers. The boutique hypercar manufacturer announced the start of production in a Facebook post, stating that the Gemera line is finally up and running. The four-door model is being built directly alongside the 1385-horsepower CC850 that sports a unique transmission that can act as either a manual or an automatic. The Gemera was originally shown at the 2020 Geneva show with a 2.0-liter inline-three engine and a trio of electric motors to produce a whopping 1677 horsepower and 2581 pound-feet of torque. Interestingly, given the extended period between its reveal and the actual start of production, Koenigsegg updated the hybrid system before the car even entered production. The new system swapped the trio of e-motors for a single, 800-horsepower motor, which saved weight and removed complexity, though the change resulted in a lower combined power output of 1400 horsepower and 1364 pound-feet of torque. Since some owners likely wouldn't take kindly to the lower power figure, the company added an optional twin-turbo 5.0-liter V-8. The thumping-eight pairs to the same e-motor, resulting in 2300 hp and 2028 pound-feet of torque—which on reflection, seems perfectly reasonable for a family of four. In 2023, Koenigsegg revealed that nearly every customer opted for the V-8 and that the inline-three was being sidelined, as reported by Motor1.Now that it's actually being built, the Gemera is being limited to just 300 units. Unsurprisingly, each car has already been spoken for. ➡️ Skip the lot. Let Car and Driver help you find your next car.Shop New Cars Shop Used Cars
