UK police data reveals a disturbing trend: nearly half of all murders over the past three years were committed using knives or other sharp weapons. The report highlights the persistence of violence in the UK despite stringent gun control laws. London experiences the highest rates of knife crime, with 65% of murders attributed to blades. The report also raises concerns about a lack of transparency regarding the ethnicity of perpetrators in crime statistics.
Police data reveals a startling trend in the United Kingdom: nearly half of all murders over the past three years were committed using knives or other sharp weapons. While the UK has implemented stringent gun control measures, the nation continues to grapple with violence, particularly from knife crime. Information obtained through Freedom of Information Requests (FOI) indicates that 49 percent of all murders were perpetrated using blades or sharp objects.
A total of 443 out of the 898 murders recorded between 2022 and 2024 resulted from stabbings.London, a city experiencing escalating levels of knife crime during the tenure of far-left Mayor Sadiq Khan, leads the nation in this grim statistic, with 65 percent of its murders attributed to blade or sharp weapon attacks. The largest demographic among victims of knife crime in the British capital are individuals aged 18 to 24, with 46 fatalities recorded within this age group during the reporting period. Thames Valley Police, the second-largest force in the UK, covering counties like Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire in South East England, reported that 14 out of its 23 murders, or 60.86 percent, between 2022 and 2024, were stabbings. The West Midlands Police Force revealed that 42 out of 74 murders (57 percent) were committed using knives or sharp weapons. The report highlights a stark gender disparity in murder victims, with 644 males murdered compared to 245 females between 2022-24. However, the report does not provide any details on the racial makeup or immigration status of either the victims or perpetrators. This lack of transparency echoes a broader trend in British policing, where forces are increasingly hesitant to record the ethnicity of offenders. Last month, at the behest of Conservative government minister Neil O’Brien, police failed to record the ethnicity of one in three (34.4 percent) rapists, murderers, and those convicted of assault causing grievous bodily harm last year. This represents a significant increase from just 11.8 percent in 2010. O’Brien and others have called for the government to publish comprehensive statistics on the criminality of various ethnic groups in the country, including their immigration status.
