The Nets agreed to trade Bridges to the Knicks for a package that includes Bojan Bogdanovic, five first-round picks and other draft assets.

The Brooklyn Nets agreed to trade Bridges, a versatile swingman, to the New York Knicks for a package that includes forward Bojan Bogdanovic, five first-round picks and other draft assets, a person with knowledge of the deal confirmed Tuesday night., noting that Brooklyn will receive New York’s first-round picks in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031, plus a 2025 protected first-round pick that originally belonged to Milwaukee.

The Knicks patiently hoarded their draft assets in recent years, making calculated signings and trades to gradually build a team capable of defeating the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round before losing to the Indiana Pacers in the second round in seven games amid a slew of injuries. While Bridges has never been named to the all-star team, he is a well-regarded two-way contributor who earned an all-defensive team selection in 2021-22 and has never missed a game during his six-year NBA career.

Brooklyn, meanwhile, concluded that cashing in Bridges, who will be eligible for a contract extension this offseason, to deepen its pool of draft assets was preferable to trying to construct a winner around him. The Nets do not have a pick in this year’s draft because they sent their first-round choice — which wound up being the third selection — to the Houston Rockets as part of the 2021 trade for James Harden and parted with a pair of second-round picks.

The Nets fired coach Jacque Vaughn in February, replacing him with Jordi Fernandez, a first-time head coach, in April. After losing his most reliable player, Fernandez is likely headed for a multiyear rebuilding effort. Bogdanovic, 35, averaged 15.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists this past season and was traded from the Detroit Pistons to the Knicks before the trade deadline. Known primarily for his three-point shooting, he is entering the final season of his contract.
