One young former Duke product has taken New York City sports by storm.
And now R.J. Barrett is looking to emulate the success Daniel Jones is having with the New York football Giants.
The No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft, Barrett has a four-year deal with the Knicks worth $35.6 million, while Jones, the No. 6 pick in the NFL Draft, has a four-year deal worth $25.6 million. Still, Knicks coach David Fizdale said Barrett will have to compete with the veteran free agents the Knicks signed as well as the returning players.
Barrett averaged 22.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists in his lone season at Duke. Only three college freshmen ever scored more points than Barrett: Kevin Durant, Trae Young and Michael Beasley. "He will be surrounded by a number of really secure basketball players which will allow him to grow," Coach K said."And those guys will be better if R.J. grows. And they know that because they've been on teams that have had really good players."
