Kliff Kingsbury, the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, has chosen not to pursue any head coaching positions in 2024. While several teams expressed interest, Kingsbury remains content with his current role, focusing on the offense and mentoring the team's young quarterback. He expressed his satisfaction with his situation in Washington and his dedication to the current team's success.
Katherine Terrell returned to ESPN in the summer of 2022 to cover the New Orleans Saints. She initially left the company in 2019 after joining in 2016 to cover the Cincinnati Bengals. Katherine is a graduate of LSU and a Baton Rouge, Louisiana native, bringing her extensive experience covering the NFL since 2013. Keim's journey covering the team began in 1994 with the Journal Newspapers and later for the Washington Examiner. He has authored or co-authored four books and hosts 'The John Keim Report', which airs on ESPN Richmond radio. Kingsbury previously declined all potential coaching interviews while the Commanders were still in the playoffs, making him a less likely candidate to take a job this year. Due to his initial lack of interviews, league regulations would have prevented him from interviewing until after the Super Bowl had concluded if the Commanders had advanced that far. Kingsbury became available for interviews after the Commanders' elimination on Sunday but chose not to pursue any opportunities this year. Kingsbury joins three other coaches officially requested by the Saints who later withdrew from their interview process. Aaron Glenn, who played for the Saints in 2008 and coached there from 2016-2020, did not progress to a second interview. Glenn virtually interviewed with the Saints but was subsequently hired by another team. Joe Brady, the offensive coordinator whose team was eliminated in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, opted to remain in Buffalo instead of continuing the interview process in New Orleans. Brady served as an assistant coach in New Orleans during the 2018-2019 seasons. Former Saints head coach, from 2019-2022, mentioned in December that he'd like to be a head coach again 'at some point.' Kingsbury currently receives compensation from Arizona despite the team signing him to a five-year extension in 2022 and subsequently firing him less than a year later. Kingsbury has expressed satisfaction with his situation in Washington, as he can solely focus on running the offense without the additional responsibilities associated with being a head coach. He has also enjoyed working with rookie quarterback, who is considered the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, and stated to ESPN last month, 'it would take a lot to leave this kid.' 'I didn't get into this to be a head coach again,' Kingsbury told ESPN last month. 'It's not about money. It never has been about money. So, that won't move me at all. It's just I want to do the best job we can here for those guys and then kind of go from there.'
