On Wednesday, the district released a statement saying it was "heartbroken by the loss of one of our students," adding that it is waiting for the medical examiner's report for the student, identified as Eren Rivera.
Klein ISD said it cannot release any more details due to privacy concerns, but it will provide counseling and support services to anyone who needs them.It is with deep sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our students, second-grader Eren Rivera, has passed away following a medical emergency today. Our entire Epps Island Elementary family is grieving, and our hearts are with the student's family, friends, classmates, and teachers during this difficult time. Out of respect for the family's privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time, but we ask that you hold them close in your hearts. We understand that this news is difficult to hear, and our crisis counselors will be available on campus for the remainder of the week to support our students, staff, and families. If your child or family needs support, please do not hesitate to contact the school so we can assist.
