Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson to play final preseason game against Denver Nuggets
SAN FRANCISCO — Klay Thompson will play his first preseason game on Friday against the Denver Nuggets, setting him up to play Opening Night against the Los Angeles Lakers next Tuesday.
He will start the game along with Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney and Draymond Green. That means Jordan Poole will move back to the bench. Thompson is expected to play between 15 to 18 minutes in Friday’s preseason finale, Kerr said. Because of Thompson’s delayed start to training camp and into contact play, he will take a bit longer to get back to usual minutes. Before scrimmaging on Tuesday, it was uncertain if Thompson would be ready to play on Opening Night. The team hoped to get him in at least one preseason game in order to clear him to start the regular season.
With the entire team back together and healthy, Kerr can play with some rotations that involve having Thompson, Wiggins and other starters in the second units. He noted that Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody have had great camps and give them plenty of options to mix-and-match throughout the season or, at least, give the veteran players a little more rest during the dog days.
