KOTA KINABALU: The streets of downtown Kota Kinabalu are usually busy, bit on Sept 16, it was livelier than usual with the state-level Malaysia Day celebrations held at the nearby Padang Merdeka.
The field was abuzz with music and colourful lights, culminating in a 10-minute fireworks display after the formal programmes were completed.
The event started off with the singing of the national and state anthems, followed by the flag raising ceremony, flag handing over ceremony, a montage of Sabah’s history followed by an array of programmes including mini concerts. The main highlight was a beautifully-choreographed song and dance performance, where a history on the formation of Malaysia was portrayed within the show with a background video clip explaining the details.
It was a wonderfully created piece that showed people of all races living together harmoniously, as they swayed, moved and danced to the beat of various cultural music, further showcasing how beautiful Malaysia is ethnically and culturally.Although this year’s official Malaysia Day celebration was held in Kuching, Sarawak, Sabah’s own event on the auspicious day did not fall short of expectations.
