Kinsey Laine returns to Alaska to win a fourth Gold Nugget Triathlon. (Includes full results and lots of photos)
Kinsey Laine was the first women to cross the finish line at Peña Park en route to winning her fourth Gold Nugget Triathlon on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
The week after she won in 2017, Laine headed to Bend, Oregon, and began competing professionally. But after racing and working odd jobs to fill in the gaps for a few years, her racing career was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Races stopped, but as Laine said, “I still had a mortgage to pay.” While she won the race, it wasn’t a breeze. Kinsey Loan, who was last year’s race, caught her during the bike portion on the second leg.
“It has been a bit of a shock to the system to see it all again, how many volunteers come out and the community members that come out to have 1,500 women racers to a race in Alaska,” she said. “Everyone is coming out and excited to just be together and support one another. And I think I needed something like that to get me back into racing. So it was a great day and fun to be out here with all these people.
