As the sequel to the original reboot movies, Kingdom follows an entirely new cast of apes, who are surviving in the aftermath of the Simian Flu Crisis.
The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes cast is extensive, but the resulting high $160 million budget has been rewarded at the box office. According to a report by Variety, Kingdom has earned a massive total of $56 million in its first weekend at the box office, coming in at the top spot for the week. It is the second-highest debut for a Planet of the Apes reboot movie, though it falls short of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' $72 million take.
