Officials with the sheriff’s office said because the hiring process takes months, this event was made to keep candidates engaged. Dozens of people currently in the hiring process as well as those interested in a career in law enforcement showed up to see what the sheriff’s office has to offer including some cool toys like the department's helicopter, drone, bomb detection robot, and a new boat used by the marine unit.
“We were seeing somewhere between nine and 11 applicants a week, those numbers are now in the 20s every single week so we are seeing a shift in recruitment," said James Ryan, Deputy and recruiter for the KCSO.
