King County leaders are reviewing what worked and what didn’t in their first year of implementing their so-called 'Safer Schools Strategy.'

The King County Prosecuting Attorney 's Office is reviewing its " Safer Schools Strategy " to see how the program has progressed. Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion and Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and Safer Schools Strategy Lead Jamie Kvistad explained an area of concern for them is a lack of school attendance .
Additionally, the agency’s juvenile team is undergoing a law enforcement tour to help boost countywide response to juvenile crime. Manion launched the "Safer Schools Strategy" in January as violent crime among juveniles is reportedly higher right now than compared to 2019. At that time, the agency notified the school district of 70 cases in which kids have pending felonies involving firearms. They say this should help schools engage in safety planning and threat assessment sooner than they would otherwise.
They say looking ahead to this year, their Juvenile Division Team will continue working with schools, state leaders and law enforcement to staff cases, review warrants, offer training and advise on legal issues, according to a
