On the way back from the Abbey, however, Charles and Camilla will take a ride in the famously uncomfortable Gold State Coach., the late queen discussed the “horrible” ride on her coronation morning in an interview with the BBC. “It’s only sprung on leather, not very comfortable,” she said. “It is sort of a pageant of chivalry and old-fashioned way of doing things really.” Instead of the 5 mile return trip in 1953, this year’s trip will be only 1.3 miles.
