In an interview with The Voice acclaimed poet and writer Benjamin Zephaniah explains why he feels it's time for 21st Century Britain to replace the British monarchy with an alternative figurehead
but is just as famed for his outspoken political views and activism over the years, as he is for his art. And that’s saying something. Today, King Charles is worth an estimated £500 million. Zephaniah along with other prominent campaigners, is an advocate for reparations to be paid to the descendants of Africans who became captives of European slave traders, something that Britain benefited from. John Hawkins, one of the first English slave traders, was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth I.
Despite his views, Zephaniah is not what you might call any typical critic of the monarchy. His position might surprise you – never personal – but strictly business.
