King Charles III wells up as mother Queen Elizabeth's coffin is carried into Westminster Abbey
Senior members of the royal family have gathered today to mourn the day of Britain's longest-ever reigning monarch.
Sitting in the front row, he was joined by other members of the royal family such as his two sons Prince William and Prince Harry as well as his wife Queen Consort Camilla. On what must be an incredibly solemn occasion for the new monarch, the national anthem 'God Save the King' could be heard resounding all across the historical abbey where the late Queen was wed to her husband Prince Philip who died in April last year.
During the national anthem, King Charles could be seen holding back tears as the service began to reach its conclusion. In paying tribute to his mother, the King left a handwritten note that travelled with the late Queen's coffin - it read "in loving and devoted memory". Following the announcement of the Queen's death on September 8, the King spoke to members of the House of Lords and House of Commons. He said: "We gather today in remembrance of the remarkable span of The Queen’s dedicated service to her nations and peoples.
