Kim Shui's Fall 2025 collection, inspired by Monica Bonvicini's leather belt artwork, showcased a blend of Chinese and Western influences. The designer deconstructed pleather to create unique fringes and incorporated details like faux fur trims and frog button embellishments, symbolizing wealth and prosperity. Shui emphasized control and restraint in this collection, aiming for pieces that are both sexy and functional.
The Upper East Side was in for a rowdy night when Kim Shui took her show on the road to 583 Park Avenue which, according to my colleague and seatmate Mark Holgate, used to be the show space for Oscar de la Renta.
Inspired by the Italian artist Monica Bonvicini’s leather belt artwork, Shui reimagined that concept in her pieces. Instead of using belts like Bonvincini, Shui deconstructed her pleather, even getting some pieces laser cut and treated, and mixing thin and thick pieces of it to create a fringe that swished beautifully on the model who wore a top and pants made using this technique. Shui also continued on her journey of mixing her Chinese and Western backgrounds with little details.
It was evident this season that Shui had spent more time constructing and perfecting her craft than ever before. “This collection was both about control and restraint. I wanted to create something sexy but also restrained at the same time,” said the designer. If in previous seasons her clothes were sexy yet prone to the, this season they’ll stay in place and take you from 9PM to 9AM without any nipslips, malfunctions, or mishaps.
