Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle plans to comply with a subpoena summoning her to testify in Congress next week about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
Ms. Cheatle is facing increasingly strong calls to resign amid criticism that the Secret Service did not properly secure the grounds at Mr. Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. A gunman was able to climb onto a building 130 yards away and take shots at the rally. A bullet grazed Mr. Trump’s ear, killed a rally attendee and gravely injured two others.“Director Cheatle has agreed to comply with Chairman Comer’s subpoena and the hearing will take place as scheduled on Monday, July 22,” an Oversight panel spokeswoman said. “Americans demand and deserve answers from the Director about the attempted assassination of President Trump and the Secret Service’s egregious failures.”
