Details emerge following a deadly shooting in Midtown Manhattan that claimed the lives of a NYPD officer and three civilians. Investigation into the motive remains ongoing.
Four people, including an NYPD officer, were killed in a shooting in Midtown Manhattan on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred inside a building at 345 Park Avenue, which houses the Blackstone investment firm and the NFL headquarters. According to authorities, a man named Shane Tamura , from Nevada, entered the building carrying an M4 rifle and opened fire in the lobby, shooting an NYPD officer, a security guard, and a woman.
Tamura then proceeded to the 33rd floor, where he shot another woman before fatally shooting himself. The motive for the attack remains under investigation. \\Officials identified the slain NYPD officer as Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old with three and a half years of service. Islam leaves behind two sons and his wife, who is eight months pregnant. Mayor Eric Adams offered condolences to Islam's family and the city mourned the loss of lives. \\The suspect, Tamura, reportedly had a documented mental health history and a concealed carry permit from Las Vegas. He arrived in the city in a black BMW, which was found double-parked outside the building. Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the incident and are piecing together the events leading up to the tragedy.
