In an exclusive interview with talkSPORT's Faye Carruthers, full-back Kieran Trippier revealed the wholesome advice he gave to his Newcastle and England teammate Anthony Gordon at the start of the season which helped make the Euro 2024 squad.
The 33-year-old was a key player under recently-departed manager Gareth Southgate and won 54 caps over a seven-year stint on the international stage.However, moments before interim boss Lee Carsley names his first squad, Trippier has called time on his England career.
"I want to say a big thank you to Gareth and all the staff that have worked with the England squad for the trust they have placed in me throughout the years. He often deputised at left-back under Southgate, most recently at Euro 2024 as the Three Lions reached the final.
