MELAKA: The Melaka government is taking steps to prevent a potential outbreak of measles in several areas here.
State health and anti-drug committee chairman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said children under the age of seven will be given Measles-Rubella vaccines following the emergence of several cases here."Measles spreads easily and can be serious for small children and babies," he said on Wednesday .
Dr Muhamad Akmal said the disease was detected at Taman Bukit Rambai, Taman Rambai Utama, Taman Rambai Section 2 and Kampung Gedung Lalang. He said the Melaka Tengah Health officials will implement the Supplementary Immunisation Activity for all the children in the area. "The MR vaccine will be given again to the children although these kids were inoculated when they were babies," he said.
Dr Muhamad Akmal added that the health officers will be making house-to-house visits during the immunisation programme until March 8.
