A Coden man is accused of kidnapping a woman and forcing her to “marry him” in a mock wedding.According to court documents, the charge of 1st-degree kidnapping was dropped at the request of prosecutors.According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Clowder encountered the alleged victim on October 11.
Investigators say Clowder forced her into a car, held a mock wedding at a church, and then sexually assaulted her while driving around Mobile County.She tells us “she wasn’t asked to come” and what happened on October 11 between her and Clowder was “not consensual.”Leanne Johnston with the public defender’s office is representing Clowder.Investigators say the two first encountered each other at a convenience store on Dauphin Island Parkway.
According to Mobile County Sheriff’s Detective Michael Pozobyt the victim claimed she was held at gunpoint, and reached out to a friend for help, who then contacted the sheriff’s office.Three witnesses claiming to be friends of Clowder testified the victim didn’t appear to be in distress. The witnesses say the victim chose to stay in the car when Clowder drove her around to various locations.
According to the witnesses, Clowder wasn’t going along with a “scheme” the alleged victim came up with, which led to her pressing charges.He says he wants to hear from the alleged victim first.
