San Diego State's scoring offense — 19.1 points a game — ranks among the bottom 10 teams in the nation coming into Mountain West showdown at Fresno State

kicker Jack Browning is well positioned this year to set a school record for field goals in a season.

That means the Aztecs have averaged but one offensive touchdown a game against six FBS opponents this season. They are averaging 19.14 points a game, which is tied for 115th in the nation . SDSU’s four non-offensive touchdowns are tied for most in the country, with Alabama, Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky. Two things that have prevented the Aztecs from sustaining drives are penalties and third-down inefficiency.SDSU is averaging nearly 8 1/2 penalties a game, making it among the 10 most penalized teams in the nation. There were six such infractions last week at Nevada. Two Browning field goals followed false starts in the red zone that backed up the ball.
