Could Itumeleng Khune’s recent contract extension be his swan song at Kaizer Chiefs? Only time will tell
The veteran goalkeeper was one of the five Amakhosi players who were offered contract extensions this week.The 34-year-old Khune has signed a two-year contract, as has Khama Billiat, while Lebogang Manyama, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Bernard Parker were all retained on one-year contract extensions.“Is this my last contract at the club? That will be up to the club to decide,” Khune responded to a City Press question during a virtual press conference on Thursday.
There are certain areas where I personally feel I need to improve and can do better than last season.Despite no longer being the club’s first choice, Khune remains the fan favourite. He was voted by the fans to be in the starting line-up of the Carling Black Label Cup against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday.
The 31-year-old central defender said he was looking to put his best foot forward in the new season. “Our preseason has been going well so far. We all know what our objectives are. As a club we have set targets for ourselves and we are hoping to achieve them this season.
