head coach Kevin Stefanski took questions from reporters on Friday at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus regarding P.J. Walker starting on Sunday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, and more. Why Browns tight end David Njoku decided to share pictures of his face on Instagram after suffering burns
“Well, as you know, I think with every injury, you just have to treat the injury, whether you’re hopeful or not. You just have to see how the player is doing each day. He’s working very hard. He’s getting better, making progress. But we’re just going to make sure that we just treat it day to day.
“Yeah, for sure. Absolutely. You know, you always play to your quarterback’s strengths. I think he’s able to do a lot.” Was his injury more extensive when he got into the bye week? Did he find out that it was worse than you guys originally thought?“I don’t know if I can characterize it that way, Mary Kay . I think he, like all of us, he’s continuing to work out or work the injury, rehab the injury, get better. He wants very badly to play, but you have to treat the injury. You have to be smart about what you’re doing.
Both you and Andrew have said that you didn’t expect this injury to linger. Is that still the way that you feel even when he comes back, that maybe he’s going to have to play through some stuff? “Yeah. As you know, Jeff , it’s a challenge versus this defense. They’re very good against the run. Obviously, they’re good against the pass. They have great team speed. We need to be efficient in the run game. Explosives happen when you are efficient, so it’s really incumbent on having 11 guys doing their job. I mean, as simple as the quarterback booting away after he hands it off. That’s all part of the run game.
