Ahead of Ben Affleck's appearance in Clerks3, filmmaker Kevin Smith posts a sweet tribute to his friend and frequent collaborator.
Clerks 3 director Kevin Smith celebrates his friendship with actor Ben Affleck in a sweet post. Affleck has appeared in at least half of Smith's films, starting with 1995's Mallrats as the villainous Shannon Hamilton. Since then, Affleck appears in many of Smith's View Askewinverse movies; he has played Holden McNeil in Chasing Amy, Bartleby in Dogma, Ollie Trinke in Jersey Girl, and even himself in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Affleck has gone on to win multiple Academy Awards as a writer and director, taking a win for writing Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon and then winning Best Picture for Argo, his second directorial effort. The star has also taken on a number of high-profile projects that have elevated his visibility in the industry, including a turn as Batman in the DCEU; he will soon reprise the role in the upcoming The Flash solo film with Ezra Miller.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Related: Rotten Tomatoes Reveals the True Ups and Downs of Ben Affleck's Career In a new social media post, Smith celebrates his long friendship and collaborative relationship with Affleck, and champions the actor's return for Clerks 3, where the actor will be playing a new character. Smith names Affleck as one of the"co-architects" of the View Askewniverse, saying that "bits of Ben are baked into the creative DNA" of his franchise of films.
There was a time when Smith and Affleck weren't really talking, so it's refreshing to see the two collaborators back in each other's good graces and continuing to work together. Smith knows his brand well and has built a career off of it, and that brand includes a number of A-list actors that owe a lot to their time in the View Askewniverse, Affleck included.
