Moriarty will leave his role as artistic director and begin the new job in January. The company has launched a nationwide search to find a new artistic director.
A nationwide search for his replacement as artistic director, Moriarty said this week, is already under way. “We had a series of constant disruptions,” Woodward said in a recent interview. Woodward, whose title is managing director, will remain until April. “My primary focus,” he says of the new gig, “will be on the institutional vision — how the theater relates to the community, how the theater can best serve our audience, how we can lay a foundation for a future that’s equitable, diverse and inclusive, and how in the post-pandemic era, theater can still be meaningful and relevant enough to inspire people to come back together in shared spaces. I actually think it’s a civic necessity to do that.
