Chris Evans' Captain America defined the MCU.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT All six of the MCU's original Avengers were instrumental in defining the franchise's early years, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige expresses why Chris Evans' portrayal of Captain America was so important. It's no secret that casting the MCU's first heroes was a difficult and convoluted task for everyone involved.
However, with superhero movie experience and classic good looks, Chris Evans' success as Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America, seems like a given in hindsight. However, Kevin Feige recently opened up to GQ about how the modern MCU may never have succeeded without him. According to the feature, Chris Evans wasn't immediately sold on the idea of playing Captain America, worrying that he'd be stuck doing something he didn't love.
“I often think about the parallel world where he said no. Robert Downey Jr. gets a lot of attention, deservedly so, for being the foundation of this studio we have here. But in many, many ways, Chris Evans was one of those additional pillars that the house would not be standing today, if not for him.”
Why Chris Evans' Captain America Is So Important To The MCU Even Now While it may be difficult to remember now after Steve Rogers has starred in several of the best MCU movies and become a pop-culture icon, Captain America wasn't always a widely beloved Marvel hero. While most knew he existed, Rogers' over-the-top patriotic look and man-out-of-time persona weren't always easy to modernize in comics and other media.
