Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown raved about new Suns forward Kevin Durant as the two were in Golden State together when Brown was an assistant.
“It’s great for the Phoenix Suns,” Brown said. “Obviously, no one else in the West is too happy about it, but if you can get a talent like that, why not.”
Brown called Durant a “great human being” when asked about what his takeaways are from working with the 13-time All-Star and 2013-14 NBA MVP “He’s about hoops man, he loves to hoop,” Brown said. “He knows what it takes to get it done at a high level. He is so unique with how long he is, and his skill set combined with his length. He’s going to do some things that will make you guys, people in Phoenix go ‘Wow. Lucky we have him.’”
Durant is out with a right MCL sprain and won’t return until after the All-Star break. The Suns faced the Kings on Tuesday night and play the Clippers on Thursday at home before the break. “He’s in a lot of our drills and getting up shots and stuff like that,” Williams said before Tuesday’s game. “He looks great. He’s in great shape. He’s always in really good shape and he’s going game speed like he always does, but he hasn’t checked the boxes as far as playing in certain competition environments like 3-on-3, 5-on-5 to move toward the floor to get ready to play. He hasn’t done that yet.”"It's something you've got to be around.

Kevin Durant makes the Suns legit contenders, but the team will still explore ways to improveThe past has a way of forecasting the future, and that certainly applies within the world of NBA team building. That has organically split the calendar into two effective periods for team executives to tweak here and to deal there, where leftovers from the previous negotiating table typically resurface at the next meal. Predicting that upcoming menu, well, can be an exercise as simple as spotting what's left for the taking.
