‘They/Them’ has already made waves for its killer title—but Kevin Bacon and Theo Germaine are ready for audiences to see the film behind it.
’s Hollywood career has spanned decades and practically every genre, but there’s something special and difficult about horror. “I like it because it’s life and death, because the stakes are really high,” Bacon tellsover Zoom. “The hardest part about horror to me is finding different levels and different ways to express terror and anxiety, and not make them all the same. If you have to be scared for an hour and 45 minutes, sometimes you can run out of tricks. You can run out of scary-face looks.
“If somebody could actually watch this film and be like, ‘Hmm, I had positive feelings about conversion therapy, and now I have negative feelings about it,’ that would be excellent,” sayswho also stars as Jordan, a nonbinary trans camper at Whistler Camp. Despite the intense subject matter, Germaine—who also identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns—says that when the cameras weren’t rolling, they felt like they were at summer camp.
