City and borough staff and other officials are carefully working to get power restored to the area of the slide, and to allow people to go back into their homes.

ANCHORAGE , Alaska - Several people who were displaced by Sunday’s landslide in Ketchikan plan to stay at an emergency shelter Monday night after 13 people stayed there Sunday, said Mayor Rodney Dial of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough .

“It was shock,” Dial said. “We’ve never had anything of this magnitude happen to Ketchikan. We’re used to the rain. When the rain started, we just never expected this, something like this, was going to happen.” Dial talked about the man who was killed in the landslide, Sean Griffin, while he was giving a tour of damages from his truck.
