A swarm of bees attacked the man as he attempted to move a bag of potting soil from his porch, Kentucky authorities say.
HARLAN, Kentucky — A 59-year-old man died Monday when he was attacked by bees that were inside an old bag of potting soil that he attempted to move, authorities say. According to the Harlan County Coroner’s Office, the victim was trying to move the bag of soil from his porch.
The bees emerged from the bag and swarmed on the man, authorities say. Family members performed CPR on the man until emergency workers arrived. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m.“The investigation still continues by Deputy Coroner Jones and our heartfelt prayers go out to the entire family and friends,” the coroner’s officeAccording to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, there were 788 deaths from hornet, wasp, and bee stings from 2011 to 2021, an average of 72 per year.
