Late Sunday night, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari was finalizing a five-year deal to become the next coach at Arkansas. According to the report, Calipari's deal would offer an overall base salary of slightly less than the $8.5 million per year he is currently making at Kentucky.Calipari is a Basketball Hall of Famer who won 410 games in 15 seasons with the Wildcats. During that span, he made seven Elite Eights, 4 Final Fours and won a National Championship in 2012.
This season, however, Kentucky faced an early exit from the NCAA Tournament. Calipari and the Wildcats were upset in the First Round by Oakland. Kentucky is 1-3 in the tournament since 2021.Arkansas will not have to buy out Calipari from his Kentucky contract, which does not include a buyout clause should Calipari leave for another school.
