Maximum Security won the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, edging out Country House to take a victory for jockey Luis Saez and trainer Jason Servis.
McGaughey usually only brings live ones to the Derby, such as Orb when he started the streak of six favorites winning in a row. His Fountain of Youth performance was impressive but his Florida Derby race was not. If he can regain the Fountain form, he could be a factor.He just may not be as fast as the other horses. Connections hope the real Code Of Honor is not the one that showed up on Florida Derby day.
In this case, the decision to switch jockeys was made by Jack Wolf, who runs Starlight Racing, Cutting Humor’s owners. While Lanerie will get paid equivalent to where ever the horse finishes, he was surprised he was replaced.
