A Wisconsin man was sentenced to five years in federal prison for attacking a police officer in Kenosha during the riots following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Ashton Howard, 29, was also ordered to pay $29,000 in restitution regarding the officer's medical expenses and serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.In 2022, Howard pleaded guilty to obstructing a law enforcement officer, as said officer was attempting to perform his duty during civil disorder.

Howard attacked the officer on Aug. 23, 2020, while the officer was attempting to dispose of a damaged police vehicle, according to prosecutors. He hurled a brick at the officer, knocking him unconscious and leading to injury that required hospitalization.Emojis accompanying the video included those representing"quiet" and"mouth shut," the prosecution showed.Following the attack, Howard bragged about his actions.
