Kenny Doughty will return to screens in Vera repeats this week after he quit his role as DS Aiden Healy on the ITV show last year
Kenny Doughty, known for his role as DS Aiden Healy in ITV's Vera, will be returning to our screens this week as the channel airs reruns of the long-standing drama.
In a heartfelt statement on Instagram back in March last year, Kenny revealed he had made the "difficult decision of handing over DS Healy's badge." But what prompted his exit from Vera and what has he been up to since? "I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter and have been a rock for me over the years. I can't thank you enough. Precious times."
Chatting with Radio Times at the time, Kenny unearthed the motivation behind his choice and said: "There were lots of personal and professional reasons why I wanted to move on. I have loved doing Vera 100 per cent. It has been a life-changing job for so many reasons. Including working with Brenda Blethyn and in the North East. I feel like an honorary Geordie.
Kenny's ultimate Vera episode graced our screens on Boxing Day in 2023 with a feature-length special titled The Rising Tide.
