Houston Cougars head coach Kelvin Sampson worked with Mike Leach, the Mississippi State football coach, at Oklahoma when Leach was an assistant. Leach is in the hospital after a heart attack.As the men’s basketball coach at Oklahoma, Kelvin Sampson became close friends with other coaches on campus, including assistant football coach Mike Leach.
“He used to come to my radio shows, get a bottle of wine and sit at a table by himself,” Sampson, now at Houston, said of his radio show that was held at Othello’s Italian Restaurant in Norman, Okla. Sampson said the football and basketball staffs at OU were “very tight.” Leach was the offensive coordinator at quarterbacks coach at OU in 1999.
