Kelvin Sampson displays UH toughness in postgame presser
Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson yells from the sideline during the first half of a first-round game in the NCAA men's college basketball tournament Friday, March 18, 2022, in Pittsburgh.PITTSBURGH — A pillar of the University of Houston men’s basketball program is toughness.
Ironically, coach Kelvin Sampson was asked about the very topic after Friday’s 82-68 win over UAB in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, when he had to dig deep for some himself. The 66-year-old Sampson began to answer the question in the postgame press conference when he experienced a cramp on his right side.
"I don't think you can manufacture toughness," Sampson said as he stood up. He grabbed the microphone and continued his response.
