Former 'Cheers' co-stars Kelsey Grammer and Ted Danson discuss the reasons behind their estrangement and express regret over the lost years.
Kelsey Grammer admitted that he regrets the estrangement from his former close friend, Ted Danson . The two actors, who starred together on the beloved sitcom Cheers , drifted apart several years ago. Grammer stated in a recent interview that there wasn't a major argument that caused the rift, but rather a period of time in his life when his behavior may have been frustrating for Danson.
Danson, according to Grammer, directly addressed his concerns, saying, 'Grammer responded with, 'OK, I respect that,' and told the Post, 'And that actually was sort of it.' He now admits that 'maybe what happened for Ted was he stepped away from what might have been a better friendship. Maybe he just had to protect himself. I don’t really know. But, I said, ‘Thanks.’ We were fine with that.' Danson expressed similar sentiments during their October podcast, saying, 'I have a memory of getting angry at you once. It’s stuck in both of our memories. But I feel like I missed out on the last 30 years of Kelsey Grammer and I feel like it’s my bad, my doing, and I almost feel like apologizing to you.' Grammer responded by saying, 'No, I don’t feel like — I apologize to you and me that I sat back, you know, and didn’t. And I really do apologize.'Despite the distance, Grammer clearly still holds Danson in high regard, telling him, 'spent some more time together,' before adding, 'My love for you has always been as easy as the day.
