Kelantan may use state land as flood relief centres

TUMPAT: The state government is looking at several pieces of state-owned land to be turned into temporary relief centres during floods, says Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

The Mentri Besar said besides complementing existing ones, these new centres would be built near residential areas for easier access.

Its director Kamal Mustapha said the locations were Ketereh fire station, Kok Lanas health clinic and SK Ketereh.“The state government will undertake the drainage projects in these flood hotspots. Kamal said five other projects in Kota Baru were in the tender process and would be implemented in Kampung Kota, Taman Wadi Iman, Pasar Kedai Mulong, behind Istana Kubang Kerian and Kampung Baruh Kadok Batu 8.

Kamal said a total of 615 river conservation projects were carried out last year to reduce flood risk at a cost of RM27.74mil.
