The songs played on Sunday were only a small sample of Arcand's compositions, each one connected to specific moments and people in his life.
She pointed out former students John had taught with Fiddles in the North decades ago, friends he had met over the 24 years of the John Arcand Fiddle Fest, and musicians from all over the country who had travelled to Batoche to thank and celebrate him.
One performer, Jordan Daniels, even played a song Arcand wrote specifically for him — the Jordan Daniels Waltz. “I was very honoured to be part of such an incredible experience, and really see how he has influenced and touched so many people with his playing and with the John Arcand Fiddle Fest,” she said. “It was really great to see fiddlers from all age groups and experience levels up there playing his tunes.
“He’s a very soft-spoken man,” she said. “He doesn’t want to make anybody feel upset. But at the same time, he’ll tell you how it is — and you need to hear it. When he speaks, you need to hear what he says.”Article content
