From reshaping transfer policy to targeting new markets for recruitment, Thelwell has made his mark in difficult circumstances at Everton
It became crystal clear early in Kevin Thelwell’s tenure as their director of football that had a huge financial hole to fill. As surprising as it feels now, the club’s primary focus when Thelwell was recruited from New York Red Bulls of in February 2022 was on a return to playing in the European competitions. Despite an ongoing relegation battle, the somewhat misguided belief from key decision-makers at the time was that Everton were drastically underperforming on the pitch.

Everton believe their recruitment team, led by Purdy, are in very capable hands but that they have been held back by a lack of resources.
