GEORGE TOWN: Wet market traders here took pride in carrying out cleaning works daily even before the Covid-19 outbreak.
“Every day, we would clean our stalls first before we start business. Some even carried out cleaning in between, especially fishmongers.
Fishmonger Shah Jahan Hassan, 58, said he started using strong disinfectants to clean his stall after the outbreak. “It is safe as most of the people here are locals from nearby communities. They do not travel much and we do not go anywhere either, so everyone just go about doing their normal chores,” said Ch’ng Meng Seong, who operates a seafood stall.Ch’ng said he had reminded his workers to take proper care of their personal hygiene after the outbreak.Poultry stall owner Choon Herng, 50, said they had been carrying out thorough cleaning ever since the outbreak.
“The important thing is personal cleanliness. We hope everyone would take care of their own hygiene and focus on washing hands more often,” he said.
