Wells paddled away from the shark, which is estimated to have been 4.5 meters long, and even tried to distract it with a water bottle. Thankfully, the shark eventually left him unharmed.

Matthew John Patrick Wells captured footage of the terrifying ordeal, saying it was an experience he’ll never forget. Wells said he was out fishing for yellowtail kingfish on Jan. 30 when he spotted the predator in the water behind him. Wells said the shark looked about 4.5 meters long, which is more than 14 feet.

He’s still behind me. He’s going at my rudder. He’s just following me. F—, how do I get him to leave me alone? Please leave me alone, bro. Please leave me alone," Wells can be heard saying to himself while paddling away. "I’m sorry for all the swearing but I’m s—---- bricks right now," he added.At one point, Wells considered what he could distract the shark with.
