In a new interview, KatyPerry discussed her upcoming album Smile, how she's feeling about her baby girl's impending birth, and why she thinks wearing a mask is just the right thing to do.
has a good plan for her impending motherhood. But given how this year has gone so far, she's well aware that when"you have a plan God laughs." That's what she told Howard Stern on Tuesday morning when she dialed in to chat with the SiriusXM titan for the first time in 12 years in a wide-ranging conversation about her upcoming album, , how she's feeling about her baby girl's impending birth and why she thinks wearing a mask is just the right thing to do.
Catching up on all the years that have passed since they last talked, Stern wondered if Perry ever feels like she's missed out on going to college after spending most of her life in the music business."One of my life goals is to go to Oxford College and continue my education," said Perry, who has been making music in some form or another since she was nine, which stopped her from continuing her education.
After pivoting to record an album filled with hope and resilience following a period of clinical depression brought on by her feelings of failure about 2017's more seriousalbum, Perry said she got out of the loop of being a"desperate, thirsty" pop star who needed to be No. 1 all the time. She hit upon the image of a clown -- which she portrays on the album's cover -- because she remembered that her music has always had a playful side that somehow got lost in the sauce.
Another dim memory that she excised during that period was her feud with Taylor Swift, which Perry said she was glad got quashed in public so that the two successful, confident women could display an example of redemption for young girls."It's hard for young girls grown up, [with] cliques and high school and pettiness and all that stuff, so now we're super friendly and I've always wanted the best for her and we can talk about the best we want for each other," she said.
