Kate Winslet with a cigarette in her mouth as Lee Miller in Lee
The Big Picture The story of one of history's most iconic photojournalists will soon be making its way to the big screen - Roadside Attractions and Vertical Entertainment have released the official trailer for Lee. The biopic film will star Kate Winslet as Lee Miller, a model who changes careers to become a World War II correspondent and war photographer - and becomes one of history's most well-known reporters in the process.
The trailer shows that portions of the film will be a flashback of war sequences while Miller is working as a war correspondent for Vogue, while others will feature an elderly Miller. In one notable scene, Miller is seen talking to her son Antony Penrose , who would also grow up to become a renowned photographer. "Do you think I went to war so people would know my name?" Miller asks.
Lee will chronicle much of Miller's journey during the war, and will show "how Miller lived her life at full-throttle in pursuit of truth, for which she paid a huge personal price, forcing her to confront a traumatic and deeply buried secret from her childhood," according to Roadside.
Miller Became One of History's Best-Known Photojournalists The real-life Miller is remembered as a groundbreaking photojournalists and one of the key documentarians of World War II. Born in 1907, Miller began her career as a model but soon found her calling in photography. She was in the United Kingdom when the war broke out and quickly became one of the best-known photojournalists as the conflict in Europe raged.
The film is an adaptation of the 1985 biography The Lives of Lee Miller by her son Antony. It was directed by Ellen Kuras from a screenplay by Liz Hannah, John Collee, and Marion Hume. It was produced by Sky Originals alongside Winslet for her Juggle Films banner, Kate Solomon, Troy Lum and Andrew Mason for Brouhaha Entertainment, Marie Savare and Lauren Hantz.
