The Duchess of Cambridge and other Royal ladies are ditching formal hats as they champion headbands – which come with a clever trick to allow them to connect to their fans more
The Royal Family is known for their incredible style with the likes of Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and Sophie, Countess of Wessex leading the way with their sophisticated and regal ensembles.
Speaking to the Express, Samantha Harman explained why this might be as she said: "Kate is one of the royals everyone comes to see. So maybe the choice of headband over a hat is also about connecting with the public." "The headband, keeping her long hair off her face and not leaving a shadow on her face, means she is also much easier to photograph," Samantha suggested.
This is an etiquette rule that dates back to the 1950s, when it was seen as improper for upper-class ladies to show their hair in public. On various occasions they have swapped formal headpieces out for chunky headbands, and they're now deemed appropriate as long as they are of a certain thickness to resemble that of a fascinator.
