'I was very excited about it, I thought my daughter and I, who has turned 18 recently, could go and vote for the first time'
Kate Garraway has revealed the 'only' polling card posted through her door has been for her late husband Derek Draper .
The former political advisor, from Chorley, had spent more than a year in hospital and continued to battle the severe effects Covid had on his body after contracting it at the start of the pandemic in March 2020. The 56-year-old then fell seriously ill before Christmas 2023 after suffering a cardiac arrest and died several weeks later.
"Polling cards have come through the door, I haven't had one for myself or her. The only polling card that's come through the door is for Derek, sadly, who's passed away. Unfortunately, Alex had to inform Kate and GMB viewers that it was too late to register for the upcoming vote. Earlier on the show, as the nation prepared for polling stations to open at 7am this Thursday, Kate and Adil declared their show a "politics-free zone" in accordance with broadcasting rules.
