The A’s have won 10 games this month – a drastic improvement from June when they won just five times.

A’s right-hander James Kaprielian pitched five shutout innings and held the Rangers to two hits, both of which came in the first inning. Kaprielian lowered his ERA to 4.74.

Reliever Domingo Acevedo inherited a bases-loaded jam from Kirby Snead in the top of the sixth inning, but kept the game scoreless as he threw a slider that got Charlie Culberson to hit into a double play to end the threat.Vimael Machín, Ramón Laureano and Sean Murphy drew walks off Texas reliever Dennis Santana to load the bases and the A’s went up 1-0 on a fielding error by Nathaniel Lowe. Chad Pinder made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly that brought in Laureano.

Former A’s star Marcus Semien answered in the seventh by lacing a one-run double just out of the reach of A’s outfielder Stephen Piscotty to make it 2-1. The A’s regained their two-run cushion in the bottom of the seventh when Nick Allen, who advanced from first to third on a throwing error by Texas catcher Meibrys Viloria, scored on a sacrifice fly by Machín.
