A man running a kangaroo sanctuary in South Australia's mid north is facing eviction, leaving a family and their rescued kangaroos without a home.

"I'm on a disability pension. My daughter is on a Centrelink payment. She'll contribute to our human food while my money is diverted to rent and paying for food for the animals," he said. "The department offers advice and assistance to individuals and businesses to obtain necessary wildlife permits. Currently, the owner does not hold these permits," the spokesperson said.

"Joeys in care often have intense periods of interaction with humans and this may lead to association of humans with food or other resources."
