As an organization composed mainly of Black women, many of whom have influenced the American democratic landscape, we hold a unique perspective on Vice President Kamala Harris vying for the Democratic nomination in this year’s election.Her candidacy represents significant progress in this nation involving women and communities of color, as she embodies the values and aspirations we have long championed.
Alpha Kappa Alpha stands at the forefront of breaking glass ceilings and making monumental strides in various fields. We were the first African American sorority. With notable achievements such as launching a women-owned digital financial institution and raising $1 million in a single day for HBCUs, our organization’s history-making moments are deeply ingrained.
The campaign, Take 4 or more in 24 to vote, aims to educate and mobilize members, encouraging them to Soar to the Polls. This Voter Engagement Campaign will mobilize 400,000 individuals, urging each member to ensure at least four people to vote. Activities include voter education, registration, and mobilization, spotlighting various voting methods and strategies, such as mail-in, early, and in-person voting.
Leading up to election day, members focus on get-out-the-vote efforts through phone banks and canvassing, removing obstacles such as transportation barriers and voter suppression tactics.Furthermore, members ensure potential voters are informed of resources like the Know Your Rights Hotline to address election-related issues. Through these concerted efforts, Alpha Kappa Alpha is poised to engage and empower voters this election cycle.And we aren’t alone.
